hello marcpace-

perhaps you just need to specify
which netcdf you wish. with several
version-and-flavour combinations,
module requires a bit of direction

[root at ao ~]# module avail netcdf

  ----------------------------------------------- /usr/share/Modules/modulefiles ------------------------------------------------
  netcdf/3.5.1/g77 netcdf/3.6.1/g95 netcdf/3.6.1/icc netcdf/3.6.1/pathcc netcdf/3.6.1/sun
  netcdf/3.6.1/absoft netcdf/3.6.1/gfortran netcdf/3.6.1/lahey netcdf/3.6.1/pgcc

[root at ao ~]# module add netcdf
netcdf(4):ERROR:105: Unable to locate a modulefile for 'netcdf'

[root at ao ~]# module add netcdf/3.5.1/g77
